I (@gaiapunk) am going to endorse this fascinating film (which has some great permaculture and climate change sections) to skeptics and neo-tribal new agers alike with the following disclaimer: most of what you hear regarding 2012 prophecy being the end of the world is likely utter crap. But, that being said, there are some quite credible claims that are worth giving 2012 as well as this film some serious consideration:
1.) According to NASA scientists the solar maximum of the sun may peak around the end of 2012 which could mean extremely disruptive solar storms that will pose a major risk to satellite communications and our fragile electrical grid.
2.) The Mayan astronomers were amazingly accurate with their calculations and would likely celebrate the date 2012 not fear it.
3.) Data generation is increasing at a awe inspiring pace which will continue to create rapid innovation and a shift towards more collaborative and sharing culture. Here is a mighty proclamation from Eric Schmidt CEO of Google, “There was 5 exabytes of information created between the dawn of civilization through 2003, but that much information is now created every 2 days, and the pace is increasing…People aren’t ready for the technology revolution that’s going to happen to them.” Just imagine 2 years from now….
